Dr. Frank Zhu obtained his PhD in cognitive neuroscience from the University of Hong Kong in 2010. He subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2011 to 2014 and a Research Assistant Professor from 2015 to 2017 at the same university. His research focused on non-invasive brain stimulation, neuromodulation and neuroimaging. He has published more than 20 papers in international academic journals in neuroscience, psychology and related fields.
Dr. Zhu undertook further training at Harvard Medical School, in Helsinki, Finland, and at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. His training covered the principles of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electric-field-guided neuronavigation, and clinical applications including depression, chronic neuropathic pain, stroke rehabilitation and preoperative mapping of essential brain functions in patients with brain tumours. He is regularly invited by universities and public hospitals in Hong Kong to give talks on non-invasive brain stimulation, neuromodulation and their clinical applications, helping advance their use in local clinical practice. He has also been invited to serve as an academic adviser to the Taiwan Allied Clinics for Integrative TMS (TACIT).
Since 2018, Dr. Zhu has focused on applying advances in neuroscience research and neurotechnology to improve the assessment and treatment of neurological and psychiatric conditions. Since 2019, he has worked with psychiatrists in private practice in Central to provide advanced, individually tailored TMS treatment for people with depression in Hong Kong. He has extensive clinical experience in the use of TMS for depression.
