“Every person’s communication difficulties are different. A speech therapist cannot rely solely on developmental milestones when planning therapy. Careful observation and analysis are needed to identify the underlying difficulties and design an appropriate treatment plan.”
Ms. Maggie Sun is a speech therapist and former Visiting Clinical Tutor in Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. With extensive clinical experience in assessing communication difficulties and explaining treatment plans to parents, she aims to help each child make meaningful progress.
Maggie holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Hong Kong. Her strong interest in language also led her to complete a Master of Arts in Linguistics at the same university.
Over more than 20 years, Maggie has worked with preschool and school-age children in a range of settings. These include a child assessment centre under the Hospital Authority; early education and training centres, regional preschool speech therapy services and special child care centres run by non-governmental organisations; and school-based speech therapy services under the Education Bureau. She has supported children with communication difficulties associated with autism, oral-motor difficulties, developmental language delay, speech-sound disorders, voice disorders and fluency disorders.
Maggie also gives talks at kindergartens and schools to promote public understanding of speech therapy.

-
Receptive and expressive language: Improving understanding of instructions, passages and questions; building vocabulary; and developing sentence structure and the use of connecting words.
-
Articulation and speech sounds: Identifying speech-sound difficulties and following a structured plan to improve speech clarity.
-
Oral-motor skills: Supporting the strength, stability and coordination of the muscles used in speech, where appropriate.
-
Play skills: Developing play skills at different stages to support social interaction and language development.
-
Social communication: Learning to use language appropriately in different situations and settings.
-
Higher-level language skills: Developing skills such as making inferences, problem-solving, and convergent and divergent thinking.
